DC Fashion Week celebrated the tenth fashion week in the nation's capital last month. The fashion week kicked off with the return of the all male model fashion show, the Washington Menswear Collections.
The largest fashion industry networking party was held on February 19 at the Washington Times Arbor Ballroom. Designers 4NCx, Stella Bonds, Diallo, Heydari exhibited. Bad Boy recording artist Deangelo Redman performed at the closing of the show.
International Couture Collections Show Returns to Embassy of France
Ten fashion houses from various parts of the world exhibited at the tenth International Couture Collection Show held at the Embassy of France, Washington, DC. The event took place on February 22. Participating countries included Mongolia, Nigeria, Persia,Siberia, and the United States.

Ughhhhhh...Its so cute you guys. I haven't bought a big haul from MAC in a very long time. We are in a recession after all, but I, like most of you, have been saving for the big spring limited edition collection. HELLO KITTY!

The stickers for this collection are so cute. Pink, Black and Silver are one of my FAVORITE color combinations! Just look at my blog!
I have the one beauty powder from the Ungaro Collection and it goes on so smoothly, this one will probably be just as nice.

Miss Sixty Brings Back the 80’s At New York Fashion Week
Are you in the market for acid wash jeans? If not you might want to think about digging back through your 1980’s wardrobe because that seems to be part of the fashion at New York Fashion Week. At least that was the case the the Miss Sixty show on Sunday where models flaunted black jeans with acid-wash denim situated around a low waist line accented by chain accents found at the waist line.
The show also included a strapless acid-wash jumpsuit which made us flashback to the 80’s or the movie the Wedding Singer, we’re not sure which one, but alas there one in the same.
Wichy Hassan then added to the 80’s feel with colorful pop-art prints and nylon puffers along with windbreakers, skinny jeans, and tank tops with “peace” graphics printed along them.
Whats in? Skinny legs that are so tight they look like part of the skin, lower waist lines, and acid-wash.

In an effort to attract young and upcoming designers, Bloomingdale's is hosting its first-ever open-see event on February 6, 2009. Bloomingdales buyers will see upcoming designers' collections on a first come, first serve basis. It's sort of like the regional American Idol auditions, only with clothing. The execs will look at women's ready-to-wear and accessories from 12-4 at the New York flagship store. 'We're very excited to be doing our first open-sees at Bloomingdale's,' said Stephanie Solomon, vice president of fashion direction. 'Giving young talent the opportunity to present to our fashion office broadens our scope beyond market visits. We're hoping to find the next great, emerging designers.' Henri Bendel has held open-sees for designers for more than 40 years. More than 500 aspiring designers have been known to camp out for hours at Bendel's open-sees for a chance to have their collection carried in the store. Bendel's legendary chief Geraldine Stutz was the first to start screening unproven talent in the Sixties. Over the years, Todd Oldham, Anna Sui, James Purcell and Colette Malouf were among those whose careers were launched by turning up with designs in hand at the Fifth Avenue flagship. Bendel's next edition will be held March 30.
This is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring fashion designers who can get to New York. The other open-see dates are March 6, April 3 and May 1."

Italian Vogue spearheaded the campaign to give minority models equal share in editorials and in campaigns. The all black issue of Italian Vogue sold out faster than you could say Tyra and received accolades from many in the fashion industry. It's just a shame that American Vogue, which is considered the leading authority in the fashion magazine world did not think of this idea first."

A model's portfolio - or book - is a collection of the model's best, professionally produced photographs. Family and holiday snaps don't count. Depending on where you are in your career, your model portfolio would contain photographs produced specifically for your portfolio, tear sheets (published photographs from past assignments, torn out of magazines) or a mixture of both. If you do need a portfolio, remember that your model portfolio is your calling card, your showcase and your single-most important investment in your career. The cheapest photographer you can find may well not be your best option. Success is the result of solid investment and hard work, not just luck. It is unrealistic to assume that you can get success from investing nothing at all. A portfolio can consist of prints; it can come on a CD or be online. REAL MODELS DON’T WORK FOR FREE!!!
First of all, I would like to applaud all of my fellow models who are on their grind everyday and pursue each and every opportunity they encounter. Yes ladies, hard work does pay off, but for what type of payment are you looking? Ask yourself that question and think of an answer before you continue to read.
What are we worth as models? To put everything into perspective: there can be no ad, pictorial, photography, magazines, etc. without the participation of models. With that said, why are some of us willing to devalue ourselves by working for free? Let me explain why this doesn't make sense...
(a) The people involved in the project in which you're participating are doing the project for a particular reason. It's usually not for fun, it's for some type of profit or promotion in order to gain profit. Either way, they're working toward making some money and you get nothing from the deal.
(b) If it's an impromptu cattle call, chances are the final product will be too embarrassing to put on your resume or probably won't be used by the producer anyhow. Why will this be embarrassing? because they'll attract wannabe models (girls who aren't visually pleasing) and forced to use them, plus you, because that's all they had to work with. The final product will not be useable. And to be real, professional productions pre-select models in what they call a casting.
Models are paid to make things look attractive; everyone who hires a model is doing so with that in mind. Ladies please keep your value and image in mind when you are choosing your "destiny." By "destiny" I mean your future in entertainment. Do you want the "ghetto ghost from jobs past" to stop you from landing that big acting role that you always wanted? or that great billboard ad that pays? or that national commercial that will generate residual income for you?
The point of this blog is to encourage patience. That job that is for you will come one day, so don't mess up your chances by being too eager to be seen for free. Not all exposure is good exposure remember that and think of it the next time that someone tells you that a job pays in exposure.

The show will be a Chris Aire production with 2 A-list celebrity performers, Super Models such as Tyson Beckford, Alex Wek, Miguel Perdono, Vernon Davis of the 49ers, Lydia Hearst just to name a few walking the runway and A-list celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Hill Harper, Adrian Brodie, Jennifer Lopez, athletes like Michael Phelps, Ray Lewis Muhammed Ali, Kenny Smith, Cal Ripken, Derek Jeter and high level politicians like Colin Powell who is opening the show and foreign dignitaries from around the world will be in attendance. Alex Cooper Auctioneers will be doing a silent auction as well as a live auction of a few of Chris's signature pieces, one of which will be a diamond guitar which a headliner will play during the show and after will be auctioned off along with 30 other celebrity donated items with 100% of the proceeds going to support foundations of the Obama's choosing. Other than President Obama being sworn in this will be the event of the weekend. This will be the show everyone is talking about. We will be pulling out all the stops from surprise celebrity guest walking the catwalk to a who's who of celebrities and foreign officials in attendance. It will be held at the J.W.Marriott on Sunday the 18th beginning at 5:30 pm. This will be a the event of Inaugural weekend. It will be a combination of The Oscars, The Grammy's and The ESPY's with the biggest names in film, sports, music, political figures and business people from around the world attending.
